Data Modernization and the Cloud: Two Sides of the Same Coin

Written by Serban Group EN | Jul 4, 2022 7:59:00 PM

Nowadays, data modernization involves taking data to the cloud. In fact, the need to have data available in a timely manner, accessible to the right people at the right time and in the right place, with user‑friendly interfaces, is causing increasingly more companies to adopt the cloud environment, which offers clear advantages in terms of information storage and management.

These days, cloud providers offer important services to understand customers’ shopping journeys, optimize their experiences and make tailored offers. In addition, they often provide robust capabilities in cloud data management. That’s why both trends — cloud adoption and data management modernization — currently drive and leverage each other.

Data Migration to the Cloud

Data modernization is the key to make informed business decisions and to deliver innovative experiences, based on leveraging real-time data. It’s also key to storing unstructured data (such as customer audios, social media comments, images, etc.).

Eighty-four percent (84%) of companies started the process of migrating their data from legacy databases and infrastructures to more modern ones (e.g., new cloud-based business intelligence solutions), but only 34% completed this process.

In today’s hybrid and distributed work scenario, data storage in the cloud is key to ensuring business continuity. Deloitte’s research also found that 91% of companies use the cloud to store their information. Data modernization is considered an essential aspect of migrating to the new environment. In fact, 55% of respondents highlighted data modernization as a key driver for cloud migration, second only to security concerns (with 58%).

Data Management in the Cloud

Moving data to the cloud obviously requires having a plan that defines goals and expectations, with clear guidelines that integrate the company’s goals. It’s also important to choose the right partners and solution for the migration to be successful.

For example, using Azure-managed application and data services ―tailored to each company’s business objectives— can speed up time‑to-market, deliver new experiences, and scale with built-in security and high availability.

Digital adoption curves aren’t slowing down. They’re speeding up, and this is just the beginning. We’re building the cloud for the next decade.
