Keys to conducting a successful IT consultancy for a client

In the current business environment, IT consulting has become an indispensable tool to guarantee efficiency, security and competitiveness in companies.

Given the growing complexity of information technologies, it is crucial to have experts who understand the specific needs of each organization, offering the best solutions and developing their implementation and execution in a timely manner.

In our years of experience with different clients of a very diverse nature, we have drawn some conclusions and methodology that we want to share here. We are aware that to achieve excellence in IT consulting it is necessary to meet these points:

  1. Understand real needs: No one can solve a problem if they do not know the problem. Sometimes the person who reports the problem has not identified or located it. You can start thinking that you have one pain and after analysis discover that it is another. Well, where do we start? We adapt these first Discovery sessions to the client's needs, we can hold meetings in a conversational format or, on the other hand, with standard questions sent digitally. Once we collect and mature the information given by the client, the next point will be to analyze the solutions/tools available to be able to correctly address those needs; We achieve this with the experience and technological desire of the consulting team.

  2. Analysis of the solutions: What is happening? What tools do we have? What new solutions do we know? This continuous learning and updating is what allows us to be at the top in terms of consulting and IT support. Having the ability to know which solution or tool best fits the need makes us much more efficient, not only economically, but also in scope, security, form and execution time. It's like finding the perfect missing piece of a puzzle.

  3. Scope and definition: Experience tells us that in almost all projects there are deviations, and they are usually considered normal within the project. Sometimes it is neither the client's nor our responsibility, it may even be due to a supplier or the intervention of a third party. Although these deviations are common, the most important thing is to delimit the area of action of each part to minimize them as much as possible. Hence the importance of defining the scope well. A well-defined scope is advantageous for all parties and allows us to advance projects in a timely and correct manner.

  4. Design, testing and execution: We usually run a series of internal tests prior to the POC on the client, which we call “laboratory”. The objective of the laboratory environment is to minimize or anticipate solving possible risks/incidents that may arise in the client's POC. For us it is absolutely key prior testing. Once this is done, we move on to the POC (proof of concept), that is, the actual test of viability of the proposed product, tool or design. Evidence is provided to the client so they can see the impact of implementing the technology and how it would run in their business. At this point, it is essential to have a well-executed development and design base to carry out these tests with full visibility and transparency. Once the client's approval is obtained, we move on to the execution phase.

  5. Training and post-sales support: The reality is that many companies do all the steps and forget about the last one or deliver documentation late, incorrect or incomplete. We accompany the client before disappearing after the consultancy. We give them post-consulting and post-sales support, resolving possible incidents or the most common errors that may arise, so that they know the details of how it was done and why it was done, what problems have been found and how they have been solved. . The delivery of total knowledge is a security and visibility for the client, we see it as the restaurants that have the kitchen visible, we want to provide the same transparency, tranquility and security.

How long can a consulting project take?

It will depend a lot on point 1, on the problems to be solved that we detect and the real needs. Continuing with the examples, it is not the same to do a renovation in a 50 square meter house as in a 10-story office building. There is no predefined time, it will depend a lot on the need or the project as such. Although we always try to carry out a correct sizing, many times we make the maximum effort, including if necessary more technical hand to save time; As we say, each case must be analyzed specifically.

What budget ranges are we talking about?

Continuing with the example of the house, if you need it in a week, instead of bringing in two workers, we will bring in ten, but of course, this will always inevitably increase the cost. At Serban Group, we always try to put ourselves in the other's shoes and seek the perfect quality-cost balance so that the most favorable scenario results for the client or that the balance tips towards the side he prefers.
